Post Pregnancy Depression: Truth Behind Irritability After Giving Birth, Crashing Out The Hate List

Some mothers who have just delivered their babies experience a natural irritability that drives them to hate some people around them. Most of the time, the husband is the first victim of such hate. Such stage in the post pregnancy period is called Postpartum Depression (PPD).

Postpartum depression specialist and author of "Postpartum Depression for Dummies," Dr. Shoshana Bennett, said that PPD is common and totally normal. The first weeks with the baby most often cause some bouts of irrational crankiness and yes, irritability seems to become a habit.

Some of the people who are on the list next to the husband that irritates a mother who just delivered a baby as listed by ScaryMommy are the "helpers who don't help" and "visitors thinking they are on vacation". These people usually get into a nursing mom's nerves as her life at this stage really necessitates help and she always feels tired because of the pressure of being a mom.

Another set of individuals on the list that irritates a new mom is the "person who brought cake." What is with the cake? Women do not like to be fat and post pregnancy gives most women the frustration towards their bodies.

One interesting person on the list is the "inventor of WebMD." Moms usually Google the case of their babies whenever something goes wrong and here comes the mom telling the experts in WebMD that they are not saying things right because of the incapability to accept the information.

PDD is not always with women. Men also experience it at a certain degree as one study says. There are increased pressures of fatherhood and associated responsibility when a new baby comes. Financial pressures and change in lifestyle and even the changes in relationships bring them PDD.

With the deprivation of sleep and increased workload at home, the mental wellbeing of both mom and dad are at stake. It is, therefore, also important to get counseling every once in a while as a parent and as a couple.
