Science Suggest That Daylight Saving Time Increases The Risk Of Heart Attacks And Health Complications

Daylight Saving Time practiced in more than 70 countries around the globe. Daylight Saving Time was established to conserve energy as to put the convenience of daylight to good use. It may be practical when it comes to energy conservation, but it was revealed that do more harm than good when it comes to human anatomy.

Christopher Barnes, an associate professor of management at the University of Washington told CNN the looming dangers in correlation to practicing Daylight Saving Time. It was mentioned that higher percentage of people who experienced stroke occurred just two days after DST is being implemented.

Barnes explained that cancer patients are at risk 25percent higher after Daylight Saving Time. People older than 65 years old on the other hand are 20percent more likely to have a stroke while a total stroke rate increased by 8percent.

Daylight Saving Time may only be an hour back adjustment, but it highly influences the body's daily function. Barnes explained that an hour change could cause havoc upon the body's normal function which can have a negative impact. It was then mentioned that most people who take part of DST lack 40 minutes to an hour on their daily rest time.

"When we change the time by one hour, it throws a monkey wrench into our circadian process," Barnes stated. "The following Monday, we've discovered that people have about 40 minutes less sleep. Because we're already short on sleep, to begin with, the effects of even 40 minutes are noticeable."

Barnes also highlighted that Daylight Saving Time throws off the individuals' natural process, which can trigger possible health complications. To those who are diagnosed with pre-existing conditions, however, are placed at a higher risk.

"Human beings aren't built for 25-hour days," Barnes explains. "It throws people off because we're working on our natural process."
