'Planet Earth 2': Watch BBC's Behind-The-Scenes Footage Of Famous Iguana [Video]

BBC released a behind-the-scenes look of the famous iguana versus snakes video on Sir David Attenborough's "Planet Earth 2." The said video showed a lone baby iguana successfully fighting for his life amid a pit of snakes. The captured moment went viral on the internet and garnered thousands of views instantly.

In the video, which will air on the BBC documentary "Planet Earth 2," the baby iguana is seen barely escaping a throng of snakes as he fights for survival. However, the newly released behind-the-scenes footages show a rather different ending for another baby iguana.

Sadly, one of the snakes successfully wrapped itself around the hatchling, which resulted to its tragic death. The producers noted that although there was a group of snakes, the vipers did not work together for the kill and it was "every snake for itself."

According to the producers, the scene was shot at the Galapagos Islands, where the crew was filming a hatchling marine iguana when a group of snakes suddenly emerged and attacked it. It's the first time such a scene was ever captured on camera.

"Planet Earth 2" promises even more stunning images of the world's amazing wildlife, which were shot using modern video equipment, as reported by the Daily Express. The documentary took more than 2,000 days of filming across 40 different countries.

Other scenes to watch out for include a family of ibex scrambling to reach the waters under the watchful eyes of a fox and golden eagles fighting over a dead fox's remains. The highlight of the documentary is a group of elusive snow leopards captured inches away from the camera, marking their territory by rubbing themselves on rocks.

BBC's filmmakers described "Planet Earth 2" as a "great moment" in natural history, very much like its first installment which was aired 10 years ago. Its pilot episode aired on BBC One last Sunday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. Succeeding parts will be aired every week.
