Mental Health: How The Use Of Anti-Depressants In Children Increases Self-Depression

In schools, children deal with all kinds of situations on their own — from bullying, ragging, harassments and what not. Those who have suffered such nuisances tend to develop mental illnesses. Some of these have no cure, other than antidepressants and other stress relieving drugs.

According to a Reddit Post, the rate of use of drugs is increasing dangerously among Canadian children. Doctors treatment for problematic behavior in children is the easy way out, prescribing a psychotic drug. It is worrisome that even the parents of such children seem to be in favor of giving stimulants to them, instead of taking them to a therapist.

In Quebec alone, the drug usage rate has increased enormously. This much intake of drugs is dreadful on so many levels.

The overdose of antidepressants could generate suicidal thinking. They affect the cognition of a child, making him vulnerable to mental instability. Antidepressants could also increase depression and with that said, the cure could become a problem in itself.

These drugs have huge side effects, which when used for longer terms could damage body organs. Antidepressants can cause increased of appetite, which could result in weight gain and eventually could be a reason for hypertension and digestive problems.

Recent studies have indicated that antidepressant drugs could also lead to kidney failure. As per National Post, another disturbing fact is that children even as young as six years old are being prescribed antidepressants and antipsychotics.

Researches have shown that marketing and manufacturing of such drugs are reaching high rates aggressively. The pharmacists are more concentrated on young children than adults because children are the softest and easiest target for them.

Fortunately, the authorities are now doing their best efforts to keep the use of drugs under control. The psychiatric facilities in Toronto are also looking for ways to prevent this issue before it goes out of hand.
