Minessotta Trans-Teen Gets Lawsuit Filed By Own Mom After Transitioning With No Consent

A mother from Minnesota filed a parental rights lawsuit against her own daughter after the 17-year-old underwent gender reassignment without parental consent. The teenager faced the lawsuit together with St. Louis County, the school district and the clinic that conducted the transition.

The Washington Post reports that the complainant, Anmarie Calgaro, filed the lawsuit and asked for all of the minor's gender-related therapies to be stopped. During a press conference, the emotional mother said that she was "robbed of the opportunity to help [her] son make good decisions" and that she felt robbed of being the mother to the teenager.

The 17-year-old was said to receive hormone replacing treatments administered by Park Nicollet Health Services. The medical expenses were funded by healthcare assistance granted by a St. Louis County law.

According to the 17-year-old's testimony, she and her mother are not in amicable terms and have not been living together for at least six months. The teenager further said her mother knew where she is living and did not even bother to check her condition. This made the teenager emancipated from her mother.

Minnesota law elaborates that juvenile individuals living outside their parents' home are considered adults and may be granted with medical care as adults. The fact that the teenager has been financially supporting herself also made her emancipated from her mother, says NBC News.

The law states that any minors who live outside home, who personally manages financial affairs, are entitled to medical, dental, mental and other health services without parental consent. "Other health services," apparently, included elective and non-emergency medical services, like gender reassignment.

The mother has been represented by a public interest firm that focuses on religion-oriented cases like abortion, Thomas More Society. Purveyors of LGBT rights, on the other hand, slammed Calgaro for purposely misidentifying her daughter's preferred gender by referring to her as "son" and using male pronouns.

Even though Calgaro has filed a lawsuit against her minor daughter, she said that she does not completely want to stop the teenager to be whoever she wants. The mother further said that she just wants her to "slow down" with her transition.
