iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 Plus Release Date & Specs: Two Models Confirmed in Data Log, Force Touch May Not Be Enough To Boost Sales [Rumors]

Good news for Apple fans waiting for the next generation of the brand's smartphones, according to Fiksu, in the upcoming fall introduction of new iPhones and iPads, two new iPhones will likely be launched.

The report suggests that last July, two new iPhones were found in the logs with identifiers "iphone8,1" and "iphone8,2." The said identifiers do not match with the names of the upcoming phones. iPhone 6 has an identifier of "iphone7,2" while iPhone 6 Plus' identifier is "iphone7,1." With this in mind, most assume that the upcoming phones will be called "6s," and, if this is correct, users will likely be seeing the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus models being tested.

There are rumors that another iPhone will be launched together with iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, and this will be iPhone 6C as reported by 9TO5Mac. However, Fiksu is hesitant to buy the idea, because, according to them, "We're not seeing a third device being tested."

In an earlier report from Parent Herald, among the best features the anticipated phone boasts are its features and specs. iPhone 6S will come with a Qualcomm-developed chip known as MDM9635M, which has a very promising potential for improving the phone's performance.

Another anticipated feature is its Force Touch, which determines the pressure that the user apply to the device. This feature has already been introduced to Apple Watch and the new MacBook. Unfortunately, there is little interest in this feature, according to CNET.

According to the report the Force Touch feature failed to trigger enthusiasm among MacBook and Apple Watch users, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said on Tuesday in a Taiwanese news site, Apple Daily. While many were excited to experience Force Touch in the next generation of iPhones, it is not "the most significant change to the iPhone's interface to date."

In a separate report from CNET, Kuo said, "We believe that iPhone's Force Touch sensor doesn't directly detect the pressure applied by fingers. Instead, it monitors the contact area on which the finger touches the screen to decide how big the pressure is."

CNN also suggests that if Force Touch is not a significant feature of the upcoming iPhone 6S, then existing iPhone users may not see the need for an upgrade. Apple has already lost the number one spot for smartphone seller in China. Currently, it is behind Xiaomi and Huawei.

According to the report, "with no real killer feature for the new iPhone and sluggish demand in China," iPhone sales could drop to between 65 million and 75 million.

There are rumors that the next release of Apple's new iPhone will be next month. By then, we can see how iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus rock the market.
