'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' Cast & Spoilers: Dylan O'Brien Reveals Difference Between The Film & Book

Often, when a book becomes too popular, a movie adaptation or TV series follows. However, the adaptation does not necessarily follow the book's contents. Most of the time, producers add some tweaks to make the story more appealing on the big screen. However, some fans prefer the book version. Whatever the arrangement is, there are always differences between the book and its movie adaptation, and this is true to the upcoming movie, "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials."

Dylan O'Brien, who plays the lead role, Thomas, in the science-fiction action thriller film talks about how the movie deviates from its book counterpart in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant. According to "The Internship" star, Thomas and Teresa's relationship in the movie is different from what's in the book because they do not have telepathy. However, he stressed that their relationship is "very interesting."

"For me, in the book, what I noticed, the spirit, we're not doing it entirely because we don't have the telepathy thing, but they're distant. All of a sudden that connection isn't there," O'Brien said.

In the book, Thomas spent the first act keeping his distance from Teresa. He did not call for her. They were separated, and she seemed not to be responding. The actor disclosed that they would be showing that.

"We're doing that here, definitely without that telepathy thing," said "The Teen Wolf" star. "There's a disconnect and there's a reason why and you find out and it's going to be a really interesting thing for the two characters to experience together. "

Moreover, he also revealed that Thomas and Brenda's relationship would blossom. The two characters would go through tough times together, which would draw them closer, International Business Times notes.

"She's like really sassy with him, and at first he kind of hates her too and I love that. They go out on this adventure together and they save one another and start to understand one another and I think that's really cool," Dylan said to Screen Rant.

"The Maze Runner" is a science fiction trilogy written by James Dashner. The first book, "The Maze Runner" was made into motion pictures in 2014. The film grossed over $102 million. It has two sequels "The Scorch Trials" and "The Death Cure," according to International Business Times.

"The Maze Runner" narrates the story of Thomas and his fellow gladers as they struggle to escape and survive after being subject to a series of an experiment by a group known as WICKED.

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials " will be released in theaters on September 18.
