Matt Damon Shares Relationship Advice, Actor Says Marriage Is 'Insane'

With the news of divorce among couples in Hollywood surfacing every now and then, it never fails to delight the public when an A-lister manages to work on a marriage and make the relationship last. With the tenth year anniversary of his marital union with wife Luciana Barroso coming up, "The Martian" star Matt Damon shares the secret to a happy and fulfilling relationship.

''I'm lucky I found my wife," shared Damon in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. He added, "If there's any secret it's that. It's to feel lucky.'' However, Damon was quick to clarify that the success of his marriage does not entitle him to judge other people's relationships. He shared that he refuses to give his two cents on other Hollywood couple and "wouldn't give anybody any advice" on how to keep their romance alive.

He does, however, have an interesting point of view on marriage.

"I think marriage is insane," said Damon. While he admits that the institution is "a crazy idea," he also says that he cherishes their relationship and loves "being married" to his wife of 10 years. When asked about his own experiences in terms of making his relationship with Barroso work, the actor revealed that nothing had been predictable and all they did was follow God's plan for them.

He said, "So much of it is out of your hands." Damon went on to say, "I mean, I just had that conversation with my father this weekend. He says the same thing to me. Says it's God's grace, is what he said. Because you just don't get lucky."

His thrill over his good fortune in finding his wife is not a new thing for Damon. In fact, a 2013 interview with Esquire revealed how amazed the actor was in the twist of fate that led him to the love of his life. He said, "I fell in love with a civilian. Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention doesn't double - it grows exponentially. Because then suddenly everybody wants to be in your bedroom."

Damon then shared that the "civilian" status of his wife allowed him to guard the family's privacy and keep the public out of their personal issues. He further said that as long as he does not do anything crazy, such as "jumping up and down on a bar, or lighting something on fire, or cheating on my wife," then no story would ever come out about the two of them and their children.
