How to Identify if Someone Needs Help With Mental Health

The thought that people can change, only if they are provided with the right situations and conditions, is always comforting. It was said by John Locke, who was a philosopher, and everybody agreed with him, that we when born, are "blank slates". The things that are written afterwards on these blank slates, should always be modifiable.

Psychopathy refers to emptiness, lacking of empathies, being manipulative etc. But the questions arrives is if these symptoms become evident at a young age, but how early do these appear?

To find the answer, Waller and some of his co-authors did a study. The parents and teachers were asked for the rating of the child on Deceitful-Callous. Also known as DC. The DC had a tendency to either judge the person by his lack of feelings for others and by the way he lied. The five items that were obtained on the DC scale were: The lack of guilt after misbehavior, even after punishments, no change in behavior observed, selfishness, and is a liar.

Behavioral problems were noticed when the child got into fights and broke the toys. The fact to be noticed was that the kids who had been in trouble early in life, did not stop creating problems for themselves instead, they themselves got into trouble.

What the findings had revealed, according to The Psychology Today, was that the toddlers who got the highest rating on the DC scale were the children who developed behavioral problems further too. The person to first notice these changes is the one who has the primary responsibility of the child.

When the child is seen to be at risk of developing psychopathy, it is important for parents and teachers to help them get more positive. To minimize the chances of psychopathy, surroundings have a great role. And the parents, their attitude towards the child, should also be brought into notice.

Parents and educators can recognize psychopathy, as soon as the children's "personality" starts to develop. After you are aware of your child's behavior, help can be taken at early stages in order to overcome the traits of the child that can be causing problems later in life.

Whether you think it's nature or whether you think it is nurture that has made the person hostile and possesses psychotic traits, early recognitions can be helpful in overcoming the problem.
