'Prometheus 2′ Confirmed By Ridley Scott -- What Fans Need To Know

There has been a talk about "Prometheus 2" but no details have been confirmed yet. Initially, the movie was scheduled for release on March 4, 2016, but then, new reports surface that production will begin in January 2016, too close to its release date, that many think it will be impossible to keep track with its schedule.

However, it's likely that "Prometheus 2" will be released earlier than what many expected because director Ridley Scott has finally confirmed that it will be his next film. According to SlashFilm, Ridley has several projects on his plate such as "Blade Runner 2," "Alien 5" and "The Cartel," which he just picked up a few weeks ago.

Earlier, Ridley was working on "The Martian," which stars Matt Damon. The pair was asked if they struggle after the film's release date was brought forward, but Damon was quick to answer that they don't. "Ridley was done with the movie about two weeks after we shot!" Damon said.

"I was already on to my next movie!" Scott also responded. "I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is 'Prometheus 2.'" This statement confirms that the filming for "Prometheus 2"  may take sooner that what was reported earlier.

Earlier, Scott was interviewed by Total Film while promoting the sci-fi thriller, "The Martian," and it was revealed that the production will commence in January of 2016. However, it's good that Ridley confirmed it's his next project because there have been no concrete details about the said film.

"Prometheus," the first film, grossed $400 million at the box office internationally and is considered the highest grossing "Alien" franchise, according to ComingSoon.net. However, despite its huge earnings, the studio was not very impressed by its success and many fans and critics, who hoped for a splendid return to the Alien universe, were disappointed with the movie, according to Cinema Blend.

For the said reason, the sequel turned to be a "will-they-won't-they proposition." The report also revealed that way back in 2013, actress Noomi Rapace, talked about a meeting with Ridley to discuss the future of the film. Rapace suggested that they made God and the Devil the primary antagonist in the spinoff. Given her character's faith that would be a possibility.

Currently, "Transcendence" writer, Jack Paglen, is penning the script. Scott hinted that whatever the final plot will be, it will likely follow the story of Dr. Shaw (Rapace) and the android David (Michael Fassbender) as they continue their search for God to find the Engineers who for reasons not yet disclosed decided to wipe out humanity.

There are no details as to when "Prometheus 2" will be released, CinemaBlend suggests it might not be released in 2017.
