‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Premiere Reveals Rich Son’s Burnt Body Led To The Big Twist

"Sherlock" season 4 episode one featured a complicated case with a big twist. The clever detective Sherlock (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) has proven his skills and unveiled the real criminal. Sherlock found leads through the investigation of the burnt body of a rich son.

The premiere episode of "Sherlock" season 4 opened with Mycroft and the British government bigwigs discussing their plan to get Sherlock off from being accused of killing Charles Augustus Magnussen. They manipulated the video and in exchange, Sherlock needs to determine how Moriarty has hacked the country through his "Miss me?" message. Sherlock then explained that he will just take time to wait until Moriarty has revealed its plan. Sherlock quipped he is the target and the targets just wait.

Moving on with the real case, Cabinet minister David Wellsbury got a Skype call from his Tibet-based son Charlie during the former's 50th birthday party. A week after the party, a car collided into a parked car in the driveway of David, then Charlie's body was found in the car that exploded.

Things get complicated when Charlie's corpse has been confirmed to have been dead for a week. Sherlock excitedly screamed that this case is a good one indeed. Sherlock began his investigation by going to the house of the parents of Charlie. Upon entering the house, Sherlock noticed a plaster bust of Thatcher was missing in the table of Margaret Thatcher. David's wife explained that the burglars have smashed it. She also told Sherlock that Charlie was hiding inside the car to surprise his father on his birthday but suffered seizure so his body became missing until the explosion revealed his whereabouts. Sherlock was not content with the statement and continued to have visions of Moriarty.

Meanwhile, Lestrade also found another smashed Thatcher bust. However, this one contained blood in it. Sherlock then discovered that there were six Thatcher busts and saw only one bust was left. When Sherlock returned to David's house, he found a masked burglar trying to steal the remaining bust.

When Sherlock fought with the burglar, he assumed that the latter works for Moriarty. However, the burglar said he does not know Moriarty and teased Sherlock that the latter does not really understand anything.

Moving forward, Sherlock found a memory stick reflecting the initials A.G.R.A. hidden in the bust, which matches with the memory stick containing Mary's secrets that John has already destroyed. Prior to escaping, the burglar then told Sherlock to tell Mary that she is like a "dead woman walking" which seems to hint that Mary is connected with the burglar.

Mary admitted she was a member of an elite team of mercenary agents, together with the burglar whose name is A.J., when Sherlock confronted her. Mary was surprised to know A.J. is still alive and was frightened he is out to kill her.

Sherlock was kind enough to offer to protect Mary but the latter tricked him with a sleeping powder and escaped from his sight. Mary tried to hide in Morocco, sporting various disguises and aliases. However, Sherlock was still able to locate her. Surprised Mary asked Sherlock how he has found her, the latter then shrugged, "I'm Sherlock Holmes."

In the process, it was unveiled that the English woman Sherlock was hunting was not Mary but Mr. Norberry, the secretary of the British government. The latter claimed she became rich by selling government secrets under the initials A.G.R.A. She then attempted to shoot Sherlock but Mary intervened and received the bullet and died.

The episode ended with Sherlock receiving a CD with the line "Miss Me?" which came from Mary. The latter has recorded the video prior to her death. The video contained an instruction from Mary for Sherlock to save her husband John Watson, TVLine has recapped. It seems that Sherlock will have difficulty protecting John as the latter refuses to see Sherlock.
