The Effects Of Tution-Free College Education In The US

If educational policies are implemented in the near future according to the pledge of New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, middle and low-income students would get rid of the financial burden. The governor lately announced that he would ensure zero tuition fee for undergraduate education at CUNY - City University of New York - and SUNY - State University of New York.

This special relief would be provided to students belonging to those families that make less than $120,000 per year. Even if this does happen, it's not an entirely novel idea as CUNY was free for New Yorkers up until 1970's.

Such policies of free higher education are not exclusive to New York only since many other states have also started giving out free-tuition education to the residents. Tennessee also promised to offer free community college education, thanks to Governor Bill Haslam.

The news has gripped much attention because the issue of rising college tuitions and debts are always swirling in the headlines. Consequently, if anyone provides any financial relief in education, it pleases the people.

Jason Lane explained to Study International that the numbers can be misleading about loans and debts in different countries because incentives and scholarships must also be considered. Hence, mere figures cannot translate into a country having a more inexpensive cost of education. Although some countries such as Argentina, Egypt and Scotland offer almost or completely free education to their denizens, it must not be forgotten that these incentives are funded by endless sources of revenue, EAIE stated.

Even though the United States has generally very high cost of attendance for higher education, it is still surpassed by the United Kingdom. International students are also being provided free tuition but only at a number of universities in the U.S. offer it. The feasibility of giving free education has way too many complicated aspects to first consider. Before the implementation of any such policies, the United States must think through properly.
