One Direction's Liam Payne Talks About Becoming A Dad For The First Time: 'I'm Still Learning'

One Direction member Liam Payne has been keeping quiet about becoming a dad for the first time. The pop idol, who is expecting his baby with girlfriend Cheryl Cole, used to duck out questions about his relationship but he's finally opening up about his girl and the child they will soon welcome.

Payne did an exclusive interview with Rollercoaster magazine and said that this is a super happy time for them. He described his impending fatherhood as a "precious time."

Payne at 23-years-old, however, admitted he's still learning. He credited Cole, who is 10 years older than him, for being such a supportive girlfriend. "She is a wonderful, wonderful person and it's amazing to have someone who can relate to so much of things - someone who's taken greater steps than me," Payne said, according to People.

The couple announced the pregnancy in February after months of speculation from the press and One Direction fans. They did not announce when Cole is due or if they are having a boy or a girl. Fans have already been guessing the baby's name, according to Mirror.

The two started dating over a year ago but Payne and Cole met way back in 2008 when the singer, then in his teens, auditioned for "The X-Factor UK." Cole was one of the judges and mentors on the show. "She's been my dream girl since I was younger," Payne said.

Payne and Cole moved in together in April 2016 after nearly months of dating. Some speculated that marriage is not far along for the two and there are reports the singer will be proposing to his girlfriend after their baby is born.

Meanwhile, Cole has been married two times before her relationship with Payne blossomed. She was married first to football star Ashley Cole from 2006 to 2010 and then to Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in 2014. The court granted their divorce in 2016, at which time Cole was already dating Payne.
