Zoe Saldana Encourages 'Alternative Ways' To Expand Family, But Won't Discuss Surprise 3rd Baby's Birth Yet

Zoe Saldana strongly believed in the "alternative ways" to expand a family. The mom of three surprised everyone when she introduced her new baby, Zen, in public last February when no one knew she got pregnant.

The 38-year-old mom, however, said she is not yet ready to share how her third baby came to be. She hinted she used a surrogate but she will discuss the circumstances surrounding the baby's birth "when the time comes."

"This is something we're being very meticulous about because of the process of how we completed our family," Saldana said, as per People. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" actress cited she and husband Marco Perego value their children's privacy, especially in their young age.

So, she's choosing to keep Zen's birth details to themselves for now. She, however, reiterated that she will share what happened when the family is comfortable about making it public. Saldana said Zen's birth story could inspire other families to look beyond conventional ways and try out alternatives.

When the actress revealed Zen on her Instagram, many quickly assumed she had a surrogate. Saldana and her husband were seen leaving Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles last Feb. 13 and they were carrying a newborn, according to Us Weekly.

Saldana and her husband are already parents of twins Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio. The boys were born in November 2014 and the actress revealed studio executives considered writing her off her movie commitments when they found out she was heavy with twins, as per USA Today.

There were production delays in the filming schedule. Saldana said her team fought to have child care included in her contracts from then on.

Meanwhile, Saldana, who married Perego in 2013, says she's grateful for having a partner who has her back. When the actress is on the set, it's Perego who's hands-on with the twins, along with an assistant. The arrangement remains the same now that they are a growing family with three young children.
