When you're a new mum in the hospital they will be loads of free baby stuff on for you to take home. A lot of practical items. Added to this lots of manufacturers leave samples for you to try - this can be formula, diapers and baby cloths. It's best to ask for these items as most nurses will be busy but these types of items can save you money and as the old saying goes; every penny counts.

Ditch the shoes till your baby is older

There is no need to buy shoes for your baby. It actually slows down their process in learning to walk. It's better for them to barefoot. They won't need baby shoes till their a little older and walking. If they go outside then booties or thick socks do the trick.

Formula Freebies

Formula prices can add up to hundreds or over $1000 dollars a year so it's worthwhile getting in touch with manufacturers to see if they are willing to send out free samples. It's important to do this as your baby could be fussy and prefer some over others. Alternatively you could breastfeed which free's up this cost and it's also healthier.

Return gifts you don't want

This is why it can be a good life hack to write a list of practical gifts you could want as a new mum. Sometimes you can get items you don't need, isn't good for the baby or isn't practical. In this case return the items to the shop for something else or if you have the receipt then get your money back.

Make sure you can try the baby gear

Baby accessories and gear can be some of the most expensive items. Let's take for example the Stroller. Some can be awkward so it's important to try it out before purchasing it. It means you don't have an item that cost a lot not going to use.

Borrow things you only need temporarily

Sometimes you only need certain items for a short time so it saves you wasting money on something you won't get much use out of. Friends will have item their kids will have outgrown such as a baby bath and a walker with toys attached. Two good examples.

Minimise early birthdays and holidays

Your new born baby won't know what time of day it is, let alone whether its Christmas or another holiday. Keep these events low key in the early years and you could save all this cash for further down the line, for bigger and better birthdays.
