Why Parents Should Let Their Children Play Video Games

A study conducted by the Harvard Medical School found out that playing video games can actually be beneficial to children. Parents, however, tend to focus more on the down side of playing the game and fail to realize that it is part of a normal childhood in modern times.

Parents.com has shared the reasons how children can benefit from playing video games.

Playing video games make children more sociable. It has been observed that children who play video games can easily connect and interact with each other compared to those who don't. With this said, it will be easier for children to make friends when they see that they have similar interests. A boy in the study revealed that children in school mostly talk about the two Gs "girls and games."

Video games can teach children creativity and enhance their problem solving skills. Video games these days are different compared to how they were back in the days. Players are now made to analyze, and plan how to attack in the game in order to advance to the next level. These highlights of the game can trigger critical thinking and creativity.

These video games can also spark a child's interest in history and culture. Games like Age of Empire are set in ancient times and they are beautifully pictured. This may awaken a child's mind to learn more about the place's culture and how it was back in the days.

Also, parents must be quick to back these interests up by taking them to museums, or introducing them to internet sites that can tell them more about these places.

Video games promote exercise. It is entirely not true that video games are for couch potatoes only. According to Xbox.com, Kinect requires players to move their body to play the game. It actually looks like they are the ones in the game. It's like watching a movie in 3D, only you are playing a game of tennis for example..

It gives children the opportunity to enjoy a friendly competition. In today's modern times, video games can be connected to the internet. This allows players to interact with each other and play a game against each other. This feature somehow helps children enjoy their victories and accept their defeat.

It can give an opportunity for kids to show their traits as a leader. Some games are played by teams, and these kinds of game will test the child's leadership to bring his/her team to victory and how well he/she can interact with his members.

Video games can also be a chance to teach. Everybody plays a different game and when a game is new to someone you know, your instinct is to teach them especially if you've played it one too many times. It can also be an opportunity to learn about Web3 games and the place that NFTs and other digital assets will take in our lives in the not-too-distant future.

Video games can become a good way to spend quality time with the family. This will give parents the time to talk to their children and spend time with them. It will also make conversation much easier for children to open up to their parents in the future.
