Donald Trump Officially Unveils His US Healthcare Reform Plan

Donald Trump officially unveiled this week his U.S. healthcare reform plan. The Republican frontrunner is determined to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and his newly-released blueprint details how he would make that happen.

According to the latest post on the official Donald J Trump website, the 69-year-old presidential aspirant wants elected representatives to eliminate the individual mandate. For him, health insurances should be optional for Americans, not mandatory.

Furthermore, Trump wishes to create a new law that permits the selling of health insurance across state lines. This would allow people to branch out and choose the best healthcare plan in nearby states.

"As long as the plan purchased complies with state requirements, any vendor ought to be able to offer insurance in any state," read Trump's second bullet point. "By allowing full competition in this market, insurance costs will go down and consumer satisfaction will go up."

In Trump's model, people can deduct health insurance payments on premium plans from their tax returns. They can also use Health Savings Accounts. HSA contributions will be tax-free and can accrue over the course of time. Additionally, accounts can be passed to a person's heirs without fear of any death penalty.

Additionally, Trump wants state governments to have a wider say with regards to the administration of Medicaid per state. He feels the concession by the federal government will allow state governments to better reduce fraud, wastes and abuse of resources.

"Congress will need the courage to step away from the special interests and do what is right for America," said Trump. "Allowing consumers access to imported, safe and dependable drugs from overseas will bring more options to consumers."

Ed Kilgore of New York's Daily Intelligencer called Trump's healthcare reform plan "timid" and "reactionary". He reasoned that Trump's blueprint is merely the long-standing Republican model of national healthcare.
