Tom McCarthy to Direct '13 Reasons Why’ Netflix Series Produced by Selena Gomez

Netflix's upcoming mini-series, "13 Reasons Why," has finally found a director. The mini-series' executive producer Selena Gomez chooses the "Spotlight" director Tom McCarthy to work on the project.

Gomez confirmed McCarthy's involvement in "13 Reasons Why" via a Twitter post. Gomez posted a screenshot to give fans an update on "13 Reasons Why." She then made the announcement though her caption, saying how excited she is to work with McCarthy.

According to Deadline, McCarthy is set to direct the first two episodes of "13 Reasons Why" on Netflix. Aside from directing the mini-series, McCarthy will also join Gomez as an executive producer. The Netflix mini-series was created and written by a Pulitzer Prize and Tony winner Brian Yorkey.

Variety notes that Gomez and her mother Mandy Teefey initially found the young adult book "13 Reasons Why." Gomez and Teefey then took the book to Anonymous content along with Kristel Laiblin for a screen adaptation. Yorkey, Joy Gorman form Anonymous content, Michael Sugar, Steve Golin, Teefey and the producer Krister Laiblin will also executive produce "13 Reasons Why."

"13 Reasons Why" is the first mini-series that the "Good For You" singer will executive produce. Though it's taking a while for the Netflix mini-series to be released, it is, however, moving forward. Despite the rumors circulating that Gomez will take on the role of Hannah Baker in "13 Reasons Why," Entertainment Weekly confirms that the singer will not play the titular role.

The movie adaptation of Jay Asher's young adult book "13 Reasons Why" revolves around Hannah Baker's suicide chronicle, which involved 13 of her schoolmates. Upon arriving at home after school, Clay Jensen, Hannah's crush and schoolmate, found a box filled with cassette tapes on his front porch. The box contains 13 cassette tapes intended for people who are part of the reasons as to why she took her life two weeks earlier.

More updates on Netflix's "13 Reasons Why" are expected soon.
