Python Swallows a Cat Whole in Brisbane

A hungry python fed on an innocent cat in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The snake swallowed the cat whole and strangled it to prevent it from breaking free.

A video (shown below) capture by snake catcher Janne Torkkola showed a two-meter python devouring on a medium-sized pet cat in a backyard. Daily Mail said the python started swallowing the cat's head then wrapped the pet with the rest of its body.

The snake tried to adjust its jaw to accommodate the cat and at times stopped to get a better position. When the snake swallowed the entire cat after trying to fit it in its mouth, Torkkola said this can already be considered as a "home stretch" for the snake.

"We're on the home stretch now," the snake catcher said as the cat was almost swallowed in full by the carpet python. "So this would be the second reason to keep your cats enclosed particularly at night."

The pet's two feet were the only remaining view as these dangled from the snake's mouth. But the python wasted no time and swallowed every piece of the cat a few seconds later.

"He just finished swallowing, you can see the jaws are still out of alignment," Torkkola said. "Just letting him finish breakfast," he said.

He also explained in a Courier Mail report that there was nothing that they could have done more at that pint. "We popped around the corner, got coffees and sat with the owners of the home as they got ready for work," he added.

Torkkola explained that if they made a single move to save the cat, the snake could have tortured the animal until it died. "If we'd tried to move the snake, it would have probably regurgitated its meal which would have been very traumatizing for the animal," he added.

The zoologist and owner of Snake Out reiterated to pet owners that they should be careful of letting their pets out especially night. "Of course, it is upsetting to watch a pet being eaten but we have to remember snakes are native animals, natural predators and protected wildlife," he explained.
