‘Pokémon GO’ Buddy System Guide: The Best & Worst Pokémon To Use As Buddies

The new "Pokémon GO" Buddy system is expected to be released this week. It's highly likely that players are already planning or thinking about which of their Pokémon they would use as their buddy. We compiled the best and worst Buddy Pokémon you can use in the game.

Pokémon GO Hub created a Buddy tier list based on all 142 species' spawn rate, how many Candies are required to evolve them, and the amount of Candy players can get for every kilometer traveled. The latter was considered to determine which Pokémon can be evolved by players without fuss just by walking with them as their Buddy.

Pokémon GO Hub claimed that the data in their Buddy tier list is "verified and confirmed accurate." They gathered their information via their Evolution Multipliers Chart, Buddy Distance Chart and Spawn Rates Chart.

The top five best potential Pokémon as Buddies are Charmeleon/Charmander, Dratini/Dragonair, Omanyte, Kabuto, and Grimer, the news outlet listed. Players only need 125 Candies to evolve their Pokémon into Charizard or Dragonite. To evolve into Omastar, Kabutops, and Muk, only 50 Candies are required.

Charmeleon, the most efficient Pokémon to use as your Buddy, can give players one Candy when they walk for two kilometers accompanied by it. Kabuto will provide players one Candy when you walk three kilometers with it.

The next best five Pokémon to use as Buddies are Wartortle/Squirtle, Gloom, Weepinbell, Machoke, and Haunter. According to Pokémon GO Hub, these Pokémon aren't as effective as Buddies as the top five, but their evolutions are an advantage. Blastoise, for instance, is one of the strongest Pokémon in "Pokémon GO" and it only requires 100 Candies to evolve from Wartortle.

The five worst Pokémon to use as Buddies, meanwhile, are Zubat, Weedle, Pidgey, Rattata, and Drowzee. You can head to Pokémon GO Hub for the full and detailed list.

In the new "Pokémon GO" Buddy system, ordinary Pokémon need one or two kilometers of walking distance in exchange for Candy, while the rarer ones (legendary Pokémon such as Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos) require three kilometers of walking, Parent Herald previously reported. In Pokémon GO Hub's list, it was indicated that Eevee also requires three kilometers of walking distance to evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon.

Players can always switch to a different Buddy Pokémon if they feel like it. Be sure to follow Parent Herald for the latest "Pokémon GO" news.
