Macedonian Parenting [Shocking Effects]: Mother Found Dead, Strict Parenting Style Probable Cause?

A mother was found dead in The Gap, Brisbane last week. Authorities are now reportedly working on the theory that her strict parenting style is the probable cause.

Simona Zafirovska was arrested and charged with murder of her mother, Radica, on Thursday, after she voluntarily spoke with the police about her death. The police had found the alleged murder weapon, which was understood to be a piece of wood, hence, the belief that she beat her mother to death.

The traditional belief of the 56-year-old mother was unknown but majority of Macedonians were Orthodox Christians. Orthodox Christianity is approximately 66 percent while Islam is estimated at 30 percent with small groups of Roman Catholics, Protestants and atheists, according to Countries and their Culture Forum.

Traditionally, the young ones show great respect to the old. It is believed that Orthodox culture places great respect in parental authorities, therefore, there are certain restrictions among children on where they can go and whom they can be with, Daily Mail Online learned.

Experts believe that strict parenting style has its own benefits. However, if it is not balanced with warmth, care and affection, it can turn out to be detrimental among children.

Dr. Laura Markham, a clinical psychologist, said that strict parenting can create problems with the behavior. All decisions are coming from the parents so this parenting style basically deprives the child of the chance to learn self-discipline.

It could turn out worst if strict parenting style has incorporated punitive discipline. Children are more likely to become rebellious, depressed, angry and overweight or become an excellent liar, Our Everyday Life found out.

At this point, whether the parenting style was the reason why Zafirovska killed her mother remains to be proven. Only that Neil Lawler, the 20-year-old's lawyer, said that his client was in the state of distraught and would undergo mental health assessment.
