16 Kids In Hospital After School Bus Crashes; Driver And Another Motorist Killed

A total of 16 children got injured while on board a school bus that crashed on Thursday. The driver of the school bus and another motorist died from the Las Vegas incident.

The school bus collided with a car at around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The ages of the students involved in the crash ranged from 11 to 16 and most of the injuries were not life-threatening, hospital officials confirmed. Only 15 of the children sent to area hospitals were on board the bus. The other child, who was brought to the hospital, was from the other car involved in the accident.

The cause of the crash remained unknown. The students, however, testified that the accident happened so fast as everything seemed normal before the crash.

One of the parents, Cristina Marquez, said her son Angelo became upset because he saw one girl, who had her hand through a window, got her wrist slit and another had a cut near the eye. One of his friends also suffered from a neck injury, ABC News reported.

Another student said the bus entered the intersection on a green light. The bus driver tried to avoid the crash by steering the vehicle towards a vacant lot. Authorities found the bus on its side after the crash. The female bus driver killed in the incident had been driving for the school for months now and was familiar with the route.

The school bus was on its way to Dr. William Bailey Middle School, which is included in the Clark County School District, before the crash. The district took to Twitter to talk about the incident and urged parents not to go to the scene in order to administer proper emergency services on those injured. The school officials allowed the uninjured children to go home with their parents or guardians. A total of 48 students were on board during the accident, CNN revealed.

Authorities did not identify those killed from the accident. The Clark County School District deployed their Crisis Response Team for those students who need support.
