'Pitch Perfect 3' Cast & Plot: Elizabeth Banks Dishes Plot Details; Bumper, Fat Amy Romance & Surprise Actor Cameos [Details]

The third installment of the musical comedy "Pitch Perfect" is currently under-development and director Elizabeth Banks has treated fans to more details about the film's plot. 

Based on a sit-down with entertainment portal PopSugar, the actress-director spoke about romantic relationships in the film, celebrity cameos and much more. 

One of the main focuses of this year's "Pitch Perfect 2" was the romance between Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) and Bumper (Adam DeVine). When Banks was asked if this was something they had planned from get-go, she explained that it was based on the great chemistry the characters had from the original film and her desire to give Fat Amy a love story. 

"Rebel [Wilson] and Adam [DeVine] have a really great working relationship, a great chemistry; they knew each other before the first film, even. It was a really natural notion to put them back together and play off their own personal chemistry that they already have," said 41-year-old. 

However, she noted that as of now ideas are still being developed so she couldn't confirm just how the romance would play out in the third installment. 

Banks also teased that there could be more surprise actors in the film. Saying that David Cross' involvement was borne out of their friendship and previous collaboration, "Well, I have a lot of friends. It's going to be really fun to figure out who can be in future movies." 

Banks wasn't always the director of the infamously popular franchise. In the first film, she made her debut as Gail Abernathy-McKadden, one of the judges and this is a role she continued in "Pitch Perfect 2." With the third film in the works, the gorgeous blonde was asked if she would be interested in elevating her character's presence in the film and possibly get in on the singing. 

She didn't rule it out but did say she's pretty content with her character's exposure. "I'm pretty happy being a judge. I would never profess to be a great singer."

The third installment of "Pitch Perfect" is a while away with its release pegged for 2017. There are conflicting dates as to when the actual release date will be but publications estimate sometime in June or July.

 Other stars expected to return to the Universal film include Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow, to name a few.
