Parents Beware: List Of The Best & Worst New TV Shows For Kids

An education organization lists new TV shows that you should, and should not, let your kids watch.

There are a lot of television shows today that present a lot of possible scenarios. Each of these has different characters and storylines. With various choices available at the click of a remote button, kids can easily get immersed in the wild, wide world of television.

According to Yahoo Parenting, a group called the Parents Television Council, "a non-partisan education organization advocating responsible entertainment," is helping parents carefully choose the right TV shows for their children.

With the PTC's mission to "protect children and families from graphic sex, violence and profanity in the media, because of their proven long-term harmful effects" and vision "to provide a safe and sound entertainment media environment for children and families across America," they have prepared a list of the top-three best and worst shows for this country's young ones to watch. Here's the list.

BEST

1) "Supergirl" on CBS

The PTC describes this as a "delightfully cheerful and upbeat superhero series," and a "terrific role model for young girls."

"Though the show contains some fantasy violence," says the review, "it is substantially less than other such programs, with none of the “dark and gritty” sensibility which has marred other DC comics properties like CW’s 'Arrow' and the 'Dark Knight' movie series, thus making Supergirl ideal for children."

2) "The Grinder" on Fox

Described as a show with "warm family comedy" and "a story of two brothers reconnecting, and learning to support and care about one another," the PTC recommends this one.

3) "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" on CW

The PTC says that this show is "filled with an upbeat tone, delightfully satirical comedy, tremendously talented musical performances, and a central story about love and romance" that might make it a treat for families.

However, according to the PTC, this show might have issues that will get parents concerned, like questionable language and suggestive scenes that were in the first episode. Although it has potential to be a positive family show, the PTC says its future is yet to be seen.

WORST

1) "Scream Queens" on Fox

The PTC says that it has content "more appropriate for a premium cable program. "They add that "this show’s greatest shock is that it is on the public airwaves to begin with."

2) "Life in Pieces" on CBS

"Totally inappropriate for families," says the PTC. "The series contains four short, sex-obsessed vignettes every week—each of them horrifically wrong for prime time."

3) "Angel from Hell" on CBS

"A crude, obnoxious, and insulting “comedy” that’s far from heavenly," according to the PTC. "'From Hell' is right."
