'The Walking Dead' Season 6: No Rick, Jessie Romance Happening, 'It's So Complicated For Her' Says Alexandra Breckenridge

The attraction between Jessie and Rick from "The Walking Dead" was hinted in the last season, but the actress playing the character of Jessie, Alexandra Breckenridge, suggests it may not lead to anything else.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Breckenridge said that the upcoming season will see her character struggling. Viewers of the show may recall that her abusive husband, Pete, was shot by Rick and she's still going to come to terms with this. "She'd been with this person for a very long time. He was abusive, and as with most women that are abused, I think she was in denial about that for a long time. And so, he sort of woke her back and it's like, 'No, this isn't okay,' and she's like, 'Oh my gosh, no this isn't," Alexandra told EW.

The actress also said that Pete's death will give Jessie some relief despite her mourning. However, all these feelings will leave her with no interest to pursue anything with Rick. "It's not her main focus. You know what I mean? She's just sort of in the place where she knows she's needs to become stronger to protect her family," the actress added.

Meanwhile, there are speculations that Jessie's character may die in "The Walking Dead" season six, thus discounting any possibilities of romance. According to The Spoiling Dead Fans in a Facebook post, many of the characters will be trapped in a house inside Alexandria and Jessie won't be able to make it out alive.

Meanwhile, Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, also shot down the romance joking that the "first date's going to be a challenge," he told Entertainment Weekly in a separate report.

"I was very excited and apprehensive to see the first scene that they got to play. I was very intrigued about how they would address the elephant in the room, which is the dating game, you know? But she's a terrific actress, and you will see an amazing evolution of her character in a very short space of time," he said.

What's also buzzing is that Rick and Michonne may hook up in the series, especially after the show's producer Gale Anne Hurd hinted that something will develop between the two characters. "You're gonna see something very interesting develop between them. Very interesting, and incredibly unexpected. You'll see a certain kind of love," Hurd told Vulture in a previous interview.

For those following the story in the comic books, Rick did eventually fall in love again with Andrea, but her character died in the TV show.

The sixth season of "The Walking Dead" will return Oct. 11 on AMC.
