Pregnant Mom With Cancer, Tracey Ferrin, Reveals Husband Asked For Divorce While She Was in Chemotherapy

A pregnant mom with cancer was abandoned by her husband while she had to undergo chemotherapy, fight for her life, and raise 10-month-old baby Elly all at the same time. But Tracey Ferrin, from Texas, said that she has no ill feelings or bitterness toward the man who abandoned her.

Speaking with Daily Mirror, Tracey, now 39, said that she was just 18 years old when she found out about her condition. She also didn't realize it, but her husband, Nick, was likely struggling with some mental health issues and has not yet been diagnosed.

The Texas mom said her husband told her he was leaving after her first chemotherapy session. Upon going home, she threw up in the toilet and then went to the living room to find Nick standing there to break the bad news.

Apparently, Nick was so upset with her because she didn't choose to abort the pregnancy so she could focus on getting well.

Abort the Baby or Begin Chemo?

Tracey was active in sports and played volleyball regularly. However, one day, she started feeling this pain in her knees and legs, but since she was still a young adult, she didn't think it was a serious condition. Her aunt, who works as a midwife, also assured her that the bump on her knee was nothing to worry about.

However, during church one day, the couple was told by a doctor friend, who specialized in knees and shoulders, to have her bump checked. Tracey, already pregnant with her second child, had some scans that confirmed she had osteosarcoma. According to Cancer.Org,  osteosarcoma, a type of common bone cancer, has a 77 percent survival rate for localized cases. But the outlook for this disease improves with treatment for at least five years.

Tracey was given difficult choices on how to manage her bone cancer. She could abort her baby and get on with the chemotherapy or delay the chemotherapy, risk her health, but give her baby a chance to survive. The mom said there was only one option since she was against abortion. She was able to start her chemotherapy when she entered the final pregnancy term.

The mother believes that her husband could not handle what was happening to her. When Nick packed his bags, Tracey continued with chemotherapy, which led to her early labor and delivery six weeks before her due date.

Although they were already separated, Nick was with his ex-wife when she had their second child, Fayth. The baby was tiny at just 3lb 10oz, but she cried at the top of her lungs. With the baby's birth, Tracey was able to focus on beating cancer by resuming chemotherapy. But after she went into remission, the Texas mom struggled to settle into her new life.

"I was also learning how to be a mum to two girls and that involved a lot of adjustments," she said, per Daily Mail. "I didn't know what I was going to do with my life from now on."

In Remission and Finding New Love

However, a year into her recovery, Tracey found new love and hope with Ryan. The couple then went on to get married and have two boys, Bubba and Noah.

Today, the boys are in their teens, while Tracey's first two babies, Elly and Fayth, are in their early 20s. Ryan has also adopted the girls as his own.

In 2016, the Texas mom and her daughters found out Nick had committed suicide. Tracey said she never blamed Nick for ending their marriage, but she still felt guilty about what happened to them.

Meanwhile, aside from raising four kids, Tracey manages two gyms and has written a book, "Up Struggle," which she hopes will help people struggling with tragedies.
