Netizens slammed Pizza Hut on Twitter this week for featuring books that focus on the LGBTQ community on its website in light of celebrating Pride Month.

The restaurant' reading club program, Book It!, has identified three books on its website this month, including "Big Wig" by Jonathan Hillman.

Newsweek reports that several critics were unhappy about the choice and took it to social media. Some even threatened to boycott the pizza food chain.

Book It!

Pizza Hut's "Book It!" literacy program started in 1984. The US-based program aims to motivate students to read by providing Read Award Certificates, which can be used for claiming a free, one-topping Personal Pizza. The program is nostalgic for those born in the 80s as it encouraged young people to read a certain amount of books, fill out a booklet and claim a free personal pan pizza.

The program is meant for students aged four to 12 and is offered from June to August.

This month, Pizza Hut chose three books that is in line with the celebration of Pride Month. This month's reading lists are Perfectly Pegasus, Big Wig, and Be Amazing: A History of Pride.

According to Daily Hive, the chosen books explore and celebrate the uniqueness of each individual. It also encourages kids to recognize what makes everyone different and unique.

However, some conservative parents and guardians were not happy with the selection. They singled out "Big Wig," a book about a child dressed in drag to compete in a costume contest, and the experience and confidence that came with dressing up.

The critics got so offended that they threatened to end their "relationship" with the pizza chain.

Brigitte Gabriel, the founder and chairman of the grassroots movement Act for America, posted that Pizza Hut has gone "full woke" and urged everyone to "make them broke."

Another Twitter user said that the popular food chain is promoting children's books about a drag queen so he will be choosing another pizzeria, "Little Caesars," from now on.

Twitter user Kyle Becker asked Pizza hut to note that other pizza restaurants would not try to turn their kids into drag queens.

Raven Fox posted that he will not patronize Pizza Hut after clarifying its stance on LGBTQ.

The other side of the coin

Although many people were upset with the suggested reading, not everyone agreed with the criticisms.

Twitter user Dice replied to Kyle Becker that if the kid is a drag queen, they will be a drag queen even without reading the Book.

Other people also point out that the country had more than 30 mass shootings in three weeks, and the critics are worried about "Pizza Hut and rainbows."

A comment laughed that someone would be upset about a book about individuality and imagination.

Pennlive says that the featured books are for suggested reading materials only.

Pizza Hut has not commented on the matter yet.
