Ewan McGregor is known as one of the most private actors in Hollywood, but his life was rocked with controversy following his divorce from his wife of 22 years, Eve Mavrakis, in 2020.

In an interview with GQ, the star of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" said that his divorce was like a bomb going off on his family. He acknowledged the damage his affair caused, especially to his children. He and Mavrakis have four kids - Clara, 26; Jamyam and Esther, 20; and Anouk, 11.

The actor said that they all needed to heal after the marriage ended. But for a while, his daughter, Clara, was angry at her father and the other woman, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead. McGregor met Winstead while filming the third season of "Fargo" in 2017.

Estrangement from Clara

Sources told Hollywood Life that Clara used to lash out at Winstead. As the eldest child, Clara was protective of her siblings, and when she saw how much they were hurting from the divorce, she redirected her anger at her father's paramour.

Talks suggested that Clara, who became estranged from McGregor, branded Winstead as a "piece of trash" and referred to her father with unkind terms. However, the father made peace with his children after McGregor and Mavrakis finalized their divorce and settled their financial arrangement.

McGregor told GQ that he has been working on a screenplay that Clara wrote. They filmed "You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder" in New Mexico, and it's currently in post-production.

The actor said that it was his daughter who approached him with the idea of a story that was patterned about them. Initially, McGregor was nervous to read the screenplay, but it opened his eyes to the beautiful story of his relationship with his eldest daughter.

"There's things that aren't accurate, or are bent - but they still reflect our estrangement for a while," McGregor said, adding that he felt Clara understood him more than he initially thought.

In making peace, Clara also apologized to Winstead, now her stepmother. McGregor married Winstead in April 2022, and they share a son, Laurie, who was born in 2021. This is also a second marriage for the actress, who was married to ex-husband director Riley Streams for seven years.

Following in Dad's Footsteps

Meanwhile, McGregor's other daughter, Esther, is also following in her dad's footsteps and has been working as an actress. She is in the "Star Wars" series just like her father, appearing as Tetha Grig in the second episode of "Obi-Wan Kenobi."

According to the Metro, McGregor, the show's producer, had no hand in Esther's casting. The proud father said Esther auditioned for her part. The actor recalled that director Deborah Chow approached him about finding this "brilliant girl" for the part of Tetha Grig.

"She turns out to be your daughter. Are you happy with that?" Chow asked McGregor. Naturally, the father did not say no to Chow's question.
