Jade Weatherington, or Teacher Jade, has taught English on several websites for 15 years. She was juggling multiple gigs and homeschooling for her now 13-year-old daughter. In 2018, she discovered a platform named Outschool, which offers classes for kids aged three to 18. At the time, there were only 100 teachers on the platform.

According to Outschool for Educators, she now owns the organization Teacher Jade's Writing Academy and earns enough income from Outschool to call it her full-time career.

When she started at Outschool, she created a course in arts and crafts and the other in "Mastering the Five-Paragraph Essay." At first, she just earned $32 in her first month. But in her third month, Weatherington made almost $5,000 from those two classes alone.

Realizing its potential, she prepared to offer a class every day of the week. She quit her other gig and began expanding and improving her style. She now teaches nine writing and grammar classes on Outschool and works ten to 12 hours per week while earning $10,000 monthly. She said she would never be able to make as much as a regular teacher.

The innovative online teacher shares her advice with those interested in replicating her success.

Figure out what works

When she started "Mastering the Five-Paragraph Essay," she noticed that more and more students signed up monthly. Parents eventually messaged her to ask what was next. So she made the "Mastering the Five-Paragraph Essay" part two.

When parents asked if she had semester-long essay writing classes, she made a lesson for them. She also developed courses that would cater to younger kids and various one-time classes that would allow parents to see what she was like as a teacher before they committed to a course.

She advised aspiring moms to listen to their clients, expand according to their needs and wants, and offer similar opportunities.

In June, the 35-year-old teacher founded Teacher Jade's Writing Academy on Outschool. She employed nine teachers who are teaching her virtual learning classes. Despite teaching just 25-minute classes per week, she still earns $10,000 per month, Grows Acorn says.

Show your clients that you care.

Weatherington said she invested in building relationships with the kids and their parents. She shared that she would show her appreciation that they attended her class by thanking them directly. She also sends messages to the parents after the class was over to say that she was grateful that the parent enrolled her kids in her class and that she looked forward to seeing them again. She admitted that establishing the relationship helps her build a relationship with her existing and potential new clients.

Good feedback from students and parents helped promote her through word of mouth, which became the most significant part of her success.

Teach whatever you are passionate about

Weatherington suggests that it is crucial to find your passion. If you are passionate about coding, think about how you can teach the lesson to the kids. If you like math, find ways to teach it to kids and adults in a way they would also enjoy. She warns that you cannot fool kids. They would pick you up if you do not like what you are doing, she added, CNBC reports.
