Comercializadora PepsiCo S. de R.L. de C.V. recently issued a voluntary recall for a 15.5 oz, 6 count box of Gamesa Arcoiris Marshmallow Cookies due to the potential existence of Salmonella, per the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The product recall was initiated as an outcome of a routine sampling program made by the company which showed that the finished product may contain Salmonella.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young kids, elderly or frail people, and others with weakened immune systems. However, healthy individuals infected with the bacteria often just experience fever, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, infection with Salmonella can eventually result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arthritis, endocarditis, and arterial.

The company initiated the voluntary recall of the said product out of a commitment to and concern for consumers. Moreover, the product covered by the said recall was distributed to warehouses in California and Texas and may have already reached consumers through selected retail.

The company is now working closely with the FDA to further investigate this certain issue and ensure the recalled product is already removed from store shelves and is no longer distributed. No illnesses linked to Salmonella have been confirmed to date.

Consumers who had bought the aforementioned product are advised not to consume it, and urged to dispose of it immediately. Gamesa Arcoiris Marshmallow Cookies is high-carb processed food that includes unhealthy ingredients such as canola oil, and sugar. It also contains high-glycemic sweeteners such as high fructose corn syrup and sugar. Such sweeteners can also raise one's blood sugar level and prevent you from reaching ketosis, per Sure Keto.

Gamesa arcoiris marshmallow cookies contain too many carbs

This product should be avoided on keto due to the fact that it is very high in net carbs, approximately 69.23g of net carbs per 100g serving. It is also important to limit one's net carb consumption to 20g-30g per day to stay in ketosis.

Sweeteners such as sugar and high fructose corn syrup can raise blood sugar levels and prevent you from reaching ketosis. This also contains highly refined soybean oil, canola oil, and sunflower oil. These refined oils are inclined to oxidation and may cause inflammation in the body. Such highly refined oils are typically extracted using chemicals and high heat. The process strips out the nutrients from the oil and replaces them with harmful chemicals.

The product itself appears to be harmful due to possible health risks. The complications of the Salmonella central nervous system (CNS) infection leads to brain abscesses, cerebral infarction, brain inflammation, bacterial colonization, edema, and pus collection in cerebral cavities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC estimates Salmonella bacteria causes 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths in the United States annually.
