The actress and actor married four months after their first meeting and has since remained married for 38 years.

When Jamie Lee Curtis was asked about the secret of her 38-year marriage with husband Christopher Guest, she shared three things.

First, do not get divorced. Second, marry the opposite. And third, stay secure in the relationship.

The 64-year-old Hollywood star told Today in 2015 that she could easily write a book about marriage, and the title would be a resounding "Don't Leave." In 2018, Curtis told Good Housekeeping that marrying one's opposite can be quite beneficial. She and her husband have been opposites for all their married life, which has always been good for their marriage.

In July 2021, she had an interview with AARP where she shared that she wrote an original song for her husband as her gift for their 35th wedding anniversary.

The lyrics went, "I feel safe when I drive up and see that you are home," she shared and explained, "That's the long marriage. It's the safety of knowing his car is in the garage, that I'm not alone, and that he's here."

How it all started

The Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress in her role in Curtis, who was "Everything Everywhere All at Once," married her screenwriter and composer husband on January 24, 1984, five months after seeing his photo in a Rolling Stone magazine.

Curtis shared how when she saw his picture, she declared to her friend, the late and great Debra Hill, that she would marry that guy in the magazine.

Hill told her she knew the guy and was with the same agency as Curtis. The latter did not waste time and immediately called the agent and left her number for Guest, who never called her.

The actress thought that was it until they met in a restaurant. She "made a gesture" toward him while sitting with Melanie Griffith and Steven Bauer. Guest looked at her, nodded, and eventually waved goodbye. Yet, the next day, the call finally arrived.

From then on, it was a whirlwind romance. The first call happened on June 28, 1984. They got married on December 18 of the same year, Today reported.

Parents of two

When 75-year-old Guest hosted the podcast of Nick Offerman and Megan Mullaly, he shared how he knew Curtis was the one on their first-ever date. He said it was "a moment of just knowing" and feeling it is the "real thing."

In their 38 years of marriage, they have raised two adopted children together - Annie Guest and Ruby Guest, who came out as transgender in July 2020 with her parents' full support.

In fact, according to AARP, Curtis officiated the wedding of her daughter Ruby and now partner Kynthia last May in their backyard.

The latest celebration Curtis and Guest have done together was the actress win of this year's Academy award.
