Florida student Dev Shah, an eighth grader, emerged as the champion of the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee, showcasing his remarkable spelling skills and determination.

The decisive moment arrived after 14 intense rounds, as Dev confidently spelled the word "psammophile," which refers to a plant or animal that prefers sandy areas.

The New York Times reported that after surpassing 228 fellow competitors, including 10 finalists, Dev Shah, a 14-year-old prodigy, emerged triumphant, earning not only the highly sought-after title but also a substantial cash prize of $50,000 and a commemorative medal.

The second-place finisher, Charlotte Walsh from Virginia, will be awarded $25,000 for her impressive performance.
