According to reports, the victim had filed a domestic violence complaint just days before the fatal incident, and the police were aware of it.

Domestic Violence Complaint Ignored: A Tragic Turn of Events

Lily Silva-Lopez, a 15-year-old sophomore at Northridge High School in Greeley, Colorado, had recently ended a tumultuous six-month relationship with Jovanni Sirio-Cardona.

According to NBC News, her mother, Alma Lopez, stated that Lily reported an alarming incident on June 2nd, where Sirio-Cardona allegedly threatened her life by sticking a gun in her mouth and menacing her family.

Despite the severity of the accusation, Lily did not disclose the incident to her mother until June 10, when she called to inform her that Sirio-Cardona had physically assaulted her while she attempted to break up with him.

Upon responding to the domestic violence complaint, a Greeley police officer reportedly took photos and recorded Lily's statement about the alleged assault.

However, her parents contend that the officer seemed skeptical and repeatedly questioned why Lily had not reported the previous gun threat.

The family claims they provided authorities with crucial information about the suspect, hoping for swift action to protect their daughter.

Fatal Encounter: The Tragic Day of June 16th

Despite the gravity of the situation, no further action was taken, and tragically, just six days later, Lily's life came to a devastating end.

On June 16th, Sirio-Cardona allegedly forced his way into Lily's home through a bedroom window.

Her 13-year-old brother, witnessing the terrifying ordeal, managed to escape and call 911, but the call did not connect.

According to Fox News, Sirio-Cardona confronted Lily in the hallway, where he reportedly shot her multiple times.

Her brother, peering through the bedroom door, saw the suspect holding a gun equipped with a green "scope" while standing over Lily's lifeless body.

The suspect then demanded the boy's phone before fleeing the scene.

Lily's brother promptly alerted a neighbor to the horrifying event, and law enforcement arrived at the scene to find the young girl with fatal gunshot wounds.'

Jovanni Sirio-Cardona, facing charges as an adult, is accused of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery, and possession of a handgun as a juvenile.

Presently, he remains in custody on a $2,000,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court again on August 3rd.

After the incident, Greeley police arrested Jovanni Sirio-Cardona the same day at his grandmother's house, charging him as an adult with first- and second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery, and possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
