Georgia Teens Who Stole Gun and Shot at an Officer During Escape Face Assault Charges

Earlier this week in Augusta, Georgia, two teens managed to flee from police supervision while being transferred from a court undertaking to a youthful detention center. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has since due them with aggravated attack.

Two Juveniles Face Felony Counts, Aggravated Assault

The two teens, aged 14 and 15, are facing two offense counts of aggravated attack on a police officer with a handgun. They are being considered as adults in the legal undertakings. The charges stem from circumstances on March 21, during which the teens overpowered a Jenkins County Deputy and eluded into the neighboring woods.

They took the deputy's .45-caliber weapon and shot three rounds in the officer's way, causing him to lose awareness. Luckily, the deputy is now in stable circumstances, according to Sheriff Alfonzo Williams of the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

Police authorities, including the Burke County Sheriff's Office deputies and the Georgia State Patrol, work together in the quest for the fled teens. Eventually, they were found in a storage container at the edge of Ponderosa Road.

Following their arrest, the teens were processed at the Burke County Jail before being transferred back to the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center.

Sheriff Williams conveyed appreciation to al,l including police force agencies and the public, for their support in safeguarding the security of the area. He affirms the successful collaboration among police force resources across the state.

The inspection into the incident remains active, and once completed, the case will be investigated by the Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.

Georgia Teens Escape En Route to Youth Detention Center

The two underage detainees who fled custody while being transported from a court proceeding and attacked a Jenkins County deputy have been charged as adults, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

In an official statement, the GBI announced that Brandon Davis, 14, and Corinthian Newton, both residents of Millen, Georgia, have been apprehended and charged with two felony counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer with a Firearm.

As per investigators, Davis and Newton escaped from Deputy Milo Perry of the Jenkins County Sheriff's Office on Georgia Highway 56 in Waynesboro while en route to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Augusta, Georgia.

Following an extensive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies, they were eventually discovered in a storage container at the end of Ponderosa Road.

The owner of the storage container, who was present at the time of their discovery, reported that they had caused damage inside and were found concealed within a Christmas tree box.

After processing at the Burke County Jail, they were transferred to the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center for detention.

Colonel Jimmy Wylds of the Burke County Sheriff's Office credited Georgia Department of Corrections Agent Anna Stinson and bloodhound JoJo for their role in locating the escapees.

Special Agent in Charge Pat Morgan of the GBI clarified that although both teens fired shots at two deputies, neither deputy was struck. However, Deputy Milo Perry was rendered unconscious during the altercation but is expected to fully recover.

The GBI urges anyone with relevant information to come forward, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Once concluded, the case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office.
