'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2' Release Date & Cast: James Gunn Spills Details On 'Avengers: Infinity Wars' Baby Groot, New Character [Video]

The sequel to the successful multi-superhero flick "Guardians of The Galaxy" is set for release in 2017 and director James Gunn has offered updates regarding what fans can expect from the film.

To the delight of fans, the director offered a free-for-all Q&A via Facebook and while over 11,000 comments were sent in, Comic Vine notes that he was able to answer a number of queries within 50 minutes.

One of the big questions asked of Gunn was whether Adam Warlock was going to appear. While he didn't confirm or deny the possibility, he simply told people they'd have to wait and see. "But, you know, you can't... everything's going to be different in the Infinity Wars" said Gunn.

Since he wasn't able to shed light on the query, he did offer one concrete update regarding characters for the second installment. "I'm not going to give names and I won't give numbers either, but there will be at least one new character," he revealed and added that Quill will be the only Earthling/human on the team.

One of the bigger question marks following "Guardians of the Galaxy" was the future of the much-loved Groot. "Drax is not the biggest fan of Baby Groot," said Gunn which basically confirms the return of Groot as a baby tree in the sequel, along with Nebula, as confirmed by the filmmaker.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" Versus "Avengers: Infinity Wars"

According to Collider, it appears that James is more focused on the sequel of Guardians than trying to to the film into the other planned blockbuster, "Avengers: Infinity Wars."

"Everything's going to be different in the 'Infinity Wars.' I'm a lot more concerned with 'Vol. 2' than I am with 'Infinity Wars.' The way the movie ['Vol. 2'] is structured and made - it really is a story unto itself. It's not about leading up to anything else. It's about the Guardians and their lives."

When it comes to Marvel films, there is a great master plan that ties everything together, a fact that has been mentioned by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. The publication notes that Gunn is eyeing a vision that could be unique from what the rest of Marvel's team has in store.

As of now, it remains to be seen if Gunn will be able to assert his visual perspective within the Marvel Studios universe.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" opens May 5, 2017. Filming is set to begin in February 2016 in Atlanta. Actors expected to reprise their roles for the sequel include Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Benicio del Toro.
