Super Bowl 2016 Date & Location: Maroon 5, Adam Levine Confirmed For Halftime Show? -- Top Artists To Perform [Rumors]

Madonna, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry - these artists featured in previous Super Bowl halftime shows with much success. While there are still no official announcements as to who will be performing for Super Bowl 2016, word has it that "The Voice" judge Adam Levine and his band Maroon 5 are the front-runners.

According to E! Online, Levine and his band are already in talks with NFL despite earlier rumors that the league organizers were considering bringing back Bruno Mars or asking Coldplay to perform for Super Bowl XLVIII. It was Billboard who first reported in September that the NFL wanted Bruno Mars back, and the league was apparently hoping that the singer would be able to "curate" multiple acts to join him on stage. The said formula was so successful in the last Super Bowl.

Last February, Katy Perry's halftime entertainment was cited as the most-watched half-time show in history, according to the Independent. Perry, joined by other stars like Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz, was able to draw 118.5 million viewers per Nielsen figures. The singer was so happy about this feat that she ended up getting a tattoo of XLIX on her finger.

A year before Perry, Bruno Mars headlined the Super Bowl stage and was joined by rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their presentation earned about 111.5 million viewers, according to Deadline.

Maroon 5, which was formed in the '90s, has earned numerous Grammy, American Music and Billboard Music Awards in its long career, and the band was also voted as People's Choice Favorite Band in 2012. They also rank as one of the top-selling artists in the industry, according to the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA), churning hits like "She Will Be Loved," "This Love," "Payphone" and "Moves Like Jagger."

Meanwhile, a petition to invite rock legends Metallica as performers for the Super Bowl 50, has been on-going at Change.Org for several months now.

"Super Bowl 50, the biggest of all Super Bowls, just happens to be taking place in the home region (Northern California, San Francisco Bay area) of one of America's biggest and most legendary rock acts. The connection needs to happen, Metallica needs to be the musical act for Super Bowl 50," the petitioners wrote.  To date, it has reached 63,649 supporters.

Super Bowl 2016, which takes place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, is going to be telecast on CBS on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, according to TV Line.
