Stars Praise Angelina Jolie for Revelation of Double Mastectomy

Hollywood celebrities praised Angelina Jolie's decision of opting for preventive double mastectomy and sharing her story with the world. Some took to Twitter to commend her while others wished her luck on their websites.

Singer and breast cancer survivor Kylie Minogue tweeted, "#angelinajolie thank you for sharing your story and helping women around the world #inspirational."

Late Monday Jolie disclosed in the New York Times op-ed that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after doctors said she had an 87 percent chance of getting breast cancer and 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer.

Another breast cancer survivor and TV personality Guilana Rancic wrote on E! Online that she can relate to Jolie's condition.

"We should be proud of her for sharing her incredibly personal story for the sole purpose of changing and even saving women's lives."

A statement issued by Cannes Film Festival director Theirry Fremaux said that by the mastectomy revelation, Jolie has set an example to women across the world suffering from the disease.

"There is no difference between the star Angelina Jolie and the woman Angelina Jolie. The choices she made even as a director are still strong, when you read what she wrote about her own situation, and we all know that she didn't do that for herself but as giving an example to all the women on this planet earth who are suffering from the same disease."

Actress Octavia Spencer tweeted, "Huge prayers for Angelina Jolie & her family as she convalesces & bravo for raising awareness! #GetWellSoonAngie"

The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev said the news "blew" her mind. "Angelina Jolie speaking out about a difficult decision that will inform + empower others," Dobrev wrote on her website.
