'Captain Marvel' Movie 2018: Casting On-Going - Top 5 Actors To Take The Role [Rumors]

"Captain Marvel" will feature the first Marvel film with a female superhero lead. Thus, the role is a highly-coveted one. The studio is keeping details of the movie under wraps, but the search for the actress who will play the character is still happening.

Who are the strong contenders for the role of "Captain Marvel" a.k.a Carol Danvers? Below are some of the most popular choices:

Olivia Wilde

Among those reported to take interest in the role is Olivia Wilde, who admitted she is a big fan of superhero films. "I would love to create a female Marvel character who is just as unexpected and complex as some of the male characters as Iron Man. I think that would be really cool!" said the actress via Cinema Blend.

Cinematographer Reed Morano supported the choice for Wilde following a Twitter suggestion from Film School Rejects that the two should work together in the movie. Morano and Wilde discussed the possibility on their Twitter accounts, too.

Emily Blunt

The British actress already demonstrated she can handle action films when she worked with Tom Cruise on "Edge of Tomorrow." But will she have the time to do another action series when the "Edge of Tomorrow's" sequel is rumored to be underway?

Charlize Theron

MTV reported that Marvel is listening to fan suggestions and Charlize Theron is big favorite among fans. The actress was a strong central figure in "Mad Max: Fury Road" so she already showed how badass she can be. IGN reported that the studio might consider casting Theron for the part with Angelina Jolie as the director.

Ronda Rousey

Mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey is also vocal about talking on the role of Carol Danvers and she could just be the top pick by a studio executive, Cinema Blend reported. The site also stated that Rousey is a legitimate choice given her qualifications, but she's also set to do the "Road House" remake right around the time filming for "Captain Marvel" is expected to begin.

Natalie Dormer

The "Game of Thrones" actress has the fierceness, spunk and wit that mirrors the characteristics of Carol Danvers. But Dormer hasn't proven herself as a major film actress since she has mostly done TV shows. However, there's always a first time and this could be her chance.

"Captain Marvel" is slated for November 2018 theater run.
