'Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge' Release Cheaper Than Galaxy S6 in Feb 2016? LTE Chat, 12MP Sensor & More [Specs & Rumors]

The battle for the smartphone market carries on. Samsung is reportedly going to release its new flagship smartphones early in 2016, and there are some details about the phones that might interest everyone. Not only that, a rumor is even more interesting.

Phone Arena said that reports coming from South Korean state that the flagship phones will be released sometime in February, and will be equipped with LTE Cat. 12 support. This new reports cleared up rumors that the phones will be released in January.

Tech Times reported that this is very timely, as rival tech giant Apple has just recently released the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, and rumors regarding the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are already circulating and making headlines. Not only that, Apple is also said to be working on a 4-inch iPhone, for those who want a smaller model, and a cheaper price.

G for Games shared that rumors about the flagships say that the phone will come in two versions, sporting different chipsets: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, and Samsung's own Exynos 8890.

Sam Mobile said that Korean news outlet Business Korea reported that Samsung is bent on using the Snapdragon 820:

"Samsung is making every effort to fix heating issues in the Snapdragon 820 chipset and trying to optimize it. The company is trying to release a patch before the end of this month by modifying the microprocessor control program. If this step doesn’t solve the issue, the company is planning to use heat radiating pipes to improve heat dissipation, which means that Samsung is hell bent on using the Snapdragon 820 in the Galaxy S7 at all costs," said the report.

Also, GSM Arena reported rumors that the flagship will be sporting the biggest camera sensor yet. A 12MP 1/2” sensor will be fitted into the smartphone, which will give it good low-light performance shots.

G for Games also added that rumors of a price slash is circulating. The rumor, circulated by analyst Pan Jiutang, says that the Samsung Galaxy S7 might be released at a slightly smaller price compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S6. It's been rumored that the new phone will be 10% cheaper than the older one at release.

This price slash might be what Samsung Vice Chairman Kwon Oh-Hyun referred to as the “extraordinary transformation” that the company needs, if it wants to survive as a business.

Although what the VC meant by what he said is still unconfirmed and unannounced to the public, and the price slash is still a rumor, a 10% cheaper flagship with great specs is still a best bet.
