Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2016 Model Specs: New Edition Sporting 3.3 Liter, Twin-Turbo V6? [Rumors]

Hyundai is said to be working on a next-generation model for the Genesis Coupe.

According to Korean Car Blog, a test mule from Hyundai has been spotted and rumors speculate that it might be the next-generation Genesis Coupe.

Although it looks like the current Genesis Coupe, it is said to have some powerful specs under its hood: a 3.3L V6 engine that features twin-turbos. If these specs turn out to be accurate, car enthusiasts and fans alike will see more than just a powerful ride.

The car which was spotted had sticker labels on its windshield, with the words “test car- 3.3T 8AT AWD” written in them. For those that don't follow, it means that a 3.3-liter engine delivers power through an eight-speed automatic transmission to an all-wheel drive. Rumors said the car will be offered with three different engines.

If the rumored specs are true and the twin-turbo V6 is coming as expected, it would be sitting at the top of the line. The base engine is rumored to be a 2.0L turbo, and the mid-range a 3.8L naturally aspirated engine.

Bold Ride reported that the current Genesis Coupe lineup features a naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 engine that churns out 348 horses. Rumors say that the new twin-turbo V6 could make a whopping output of 480 horsepower, more powerful than the 420-hp that the 5.0L V8 engine in the Genesis sedan produces.

However, despite the rumors, the new Genesis Coupe will have the same power as the current V8 although weighing much lighter, according to Hyundai's American CEO.

Slash Gear adds that the engine is not expected to make it into the market next year, but probably in the 2017 or 2018 market range.

This news is timely, as just days ago it was reported that Hyundai is going to turn the Genesis into its own luxury brand.

Car And Driver reported that the Korean car company will launch Genesis as a new brand of luxury cars, where their luxury models Genesis and Equus will fall into. This is because it's hard to compete with luxury car brands using a mainstream name.

With a new luxury brand, their cars would change their names into alphanumerics – the Equus becomes the G90, the current Genesis sedan becomes the G80, and so on. Six models are reported to be made, all of them released by 2020, although the aforementioned Genesis Coupe is not confirmed to be included in them.

The changeover starts 2016 for the U.S. market, with the Genesis cars, not sold in separate showrooms, but in a showroom within a showroom.
