'Captain America: Civil War' Cast & Trailer: New Theory Reveals Martin Freeman's Exciting Role in The Film [Report]

Excitement for Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" is drumming up especially with the film's debut happening only six months away. With news of its latest trailer release unveiling during the premier of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in December, fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe can't help but draw more speculations for the said movie.

One that has fans constantly wondering about "Captain America" is the role that Martin Freeman will play in this third installment. News of Freeman's participation was confirmed back in May, as per Marvel. However, his role was not identified.

In a television interview, Freeman was more generous detailing his character, yet he was careful not to give away too much. "He works for the American government. He works in conjunction with the superheroes and certain agencies that help to...tame...the superheroes power. You're not quite sure which side he's on. It looks a little bit like he's playing one game when actually he's playing another," he said.

Earlier fan theories claimed Freeman could either be referring to the characters of Henry Peter Gyrich,  a government security expert, or Everett K Ross, a military specialist, per Radio Times. But a new fan theory suggests Freeman could be playing the role of Daniel Sousa, Agent Peggy Carter's love interest who already appeared in the "Agent Carter" TV show on ABC. Enver Gjokaj played the character in the series.

Per Movie Pilot, aside from the similarities in facial features between Freeman and  Gjokaj, the possibility of Freeman playing Sousa is based on the fact that Agent Carter mentioned "how Steve helped her find the man whom she came to marry" in the 2014 installment " Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Steve is of course Steve Rogers, also known as "Captain America."

The news outlet also suggested that the third "Captain America" movie might probe the relationship of Peggy and Steve further and that's when Sousa's character will enter the picture.

Meanwhile, Marvel fans were stirred up by news that someone was already able to see the highly anticipated "Captain America: Civil War" teaser. Reddit user WatsUpWithJoe revealed a detailed account of what he watched, which other fans said sounded legit. WatsUpWithJoe also indicated that it was the same teaser shown during the D23 event that has yet to make its way online.

However, Cinema Blend reported that there will be a newer footage apart from the one already seen in the D23 event. "The trailer is almost complete. With just a few special effects left to edit in, it should be out soon. You're really going to enjoy it," said directors Joe an Anthony Russo per Cinema Blend.
