'Fallout 4' Cheats & Spoilers: New Theory Teases Character Return From 'Fallout 3' [Rumors]

Spoiler alert! If you haven't played the game “Fallout 4,” or at least finished the main plot outline of the game, you may not like this -- it contains possible spoilers that might ruin your game.

For players of the game who have at least finished the main plot outline, the name 'Shaun' will be very familiar. However, Movie Pilot reported that a fan-made theory speculates that this old man -- around 60 in the game -- is a returning character from “Fallout 3.”

The fan, YouTuber Shotana Studios, is the mind behind the theory. “An idea just, just popped in my head. I don't know why but it just popped in there,” he said. “Is Shaun the dad from Fallout 3?”

Now some may not believe it, but he wants players to just consider some points. “But think about it,” he explained. “I mean, there's a lot of things I mean a lot of things that point to this being true.”

Age

Shotana explained that although “Fallout 4” takes place exactly 10 years after “Fallout 3,” Shaun appears to be around 10 years older than James in “Fallout 3.”

“The timelines match. The timelines are perfectly aligned,” he said.

A connecting character

A common connection is also a possible clue, he says. In this case, it's Madison Li, an important character in the game.

“[Madison] Li is one of the people you help... in Fallout 3, and in Fallout 4 we find that she left all that behind to work for the Institute. So that's already one person they know that's in common...”

Name changes

Shotana added that James' name could have been easily switched to Shaun when he was abducted. Also, James has some characteristic that might be a giveaway/

“James has been known to lie. He lies to everyone,” he explained. “So what makes you think that he's not gonna lie again saying that he's never been out of the wasteland.”

What happened to the Lone Wanderer?

“Could he have died?” If he did, Shotana said, it could be an explanation why Shaun hates the wastelands.

Voice actors

The characters have two different voice actors. But ageing can change voices, especially if the person is sick.

What if James survived?

What if James somehow managed to survive in “Fallout 3?” This could also explain why Shaun is dying from something in “Fallout 4.”

Appearance

The way Shaun looks is based off the player's character. This is another clue.
