'Tekken 7' PS4, Xbox One Release Date & Characters: Game Director Hints at New Character, Title Going Back to Its Roots [Rumors]

Recently, it was confirmed by Game Director Katsuhiro Harada that “Tekken 7” will be coming to the PlayStation 4 console. According to Christian Today, the announcement was made during the PlayStation event held in Paris Games Week last month.

“Fans can look forward to a dramatic and over-the-top progression of the storyline,” Harada said in reference to the game, which is reportedly the last installment to the long-running series. He added that the console version will be the most complete and enhanced version to date, and will feature new additions that players will enjoy.

Bandai Namco Community manager Gaetan Gireme said that players can expect to see new additions to the roster of fighters that players have known for a long time in the franchise. "In addition to the great graphics, as demonstrated in this awesome announcement trailer, many new characters will join the fight," he said.

One such character who will be included in the game is Kazumi Mishima, said to be the wife of Heihachi Mishima, and Kazuya's mother. The International Business Times reported that she can summon her trained tiger to aid her in battle. Kazumi is only one of the new characters that the game will feature.

With “Tekken” also famous for its “Tekken Tag” versions, Gematsu reported that this seventh installment is reportedly going back to its roots, quoting from game developer Bandai Namco. Here's what the company said:

“With the Tekken franchise celebrating its 20th anniversary; the newest chapter of the series returns to its gameplay roots with classic 1 vs 1 bouts and its canon storyline centered on the eternal struggle for power amongst the members of the Mishima clan. With newcomer Kazumi Mishima joining the fight, the epic battle between father and son, and also husband and wife, will come to its fated conclusion in Tekken 7.

Bandai Namco promised that the game will deliver stunning graphics, featuring highly detailed characters as well as beautiful dynamic environments, thanks to the Unreal Engine 4. This is the first time Unreal will be used for the franchise.

Additionally, the console version will feature the story mode, which will showcase the climax of the long-time power struggle between characters in the Mishima clan. Players will also be able to play with new characters aside from Kazumi Mishima. New characters include Claudio, Josie, Shaheen, Katarina, Lucky Chloe, Gigas, and more.
