'The Good Dinosaur' Review & Trailer: Parents Criticize Film's Death Concept, Not a Family Movie?

Disney-Pixar's animated film "The Good Dinosaur" was a success. Many were happy to see the dinosaurs in the big screens again. However, the film received a mixed reaction from viewers and critics.

According to Daily Mail Online, "The Good Dinosaur" received positive reviews from most critics last week and even made an impressive earnings of $68.7 million at the box office over the course of the five-day holiday weekend.

Unfortunately, parents were not impressed with the film. Instead, they were shocked at how "The Good Dinosaur" which was marketed for children depicted so much death, violent dinosaur attacks and hallucination.

One viewer expressed how gloomy and terrible "The Good Dinosaur" is for young kids in a comment posted in Common Sense Media. "Children were crying and leaving the theater. My little one asked me to never see it again. The movie's message is beautiful, but it's not for young kids at all." The rest of the comments on the site revealed that children were scared with what they saw.

"My husband's sleeve was soaked from my 10-year-old's tears, the 2-year-old was terrified, and I could hear the 5 and 8-year-old crying throughout the movie," one mother wrote.

Another upset parent wrote: "This is a terrible movie for kids. I forgot that Disney cannot manage to tell an interesting story without killing off a loved one. The father doesn't even die for a good reason. ..There's lots of violence throughout the movie with various injuries, animals getting attacked and eaten, and near-drownings. My 5-year-old announced, 'This whole movie is terrifying.' She was right!"

Viewers who expected to watch a fun and light-hearted movie will be disappointed with "The Good Dinosaur" because the plot was very emotional and intense for a PG movie made for kids. Parents felt that the film was too mature and others felt that they were duped by the cute trailer. Per The Washington Post, "The Good Dinosaur" is not appropriate for kids under the age of 8.

However, not all kids find the film scary. Leno Pretti, 7, shared his review about the film to Independent. He admitted that he is a huge fan of dinosaurs. While some felt the hallucination part scary, he finds it very entertaining. "The most funny part was when Arlo and Spot ate the fruits from the tree and were laughing until their bellies hurt. They swapped their bodies and heads. That was super cool," he wrote. "The Good Dinosaur was the best animation I've ever seen," he added.

We can't really tell if "The Good Dinosaur" is not a family movie because others were positive about the film. In fact, one user commented that it was a "great family movie" stressing that "there were some scary scenes but the movie ended on a positive note and the kids were all smiling as we left the theater. "
