Coldplay Set to Perform at Superbowl 2016 Halftime Show

One of the most-watched TV events happens during a Super Bowl game and several people are anticipating for the next year's halftime show. Every year, there are always speculations as to who will be given the chance to perform and, over the years, fans have seen the best and the worst of them.

A report by Wall Street Journal stated that the National Football League has announced the English band Coldplay will headline Super Bowl 50 that will happen in February 2016.

The British rock group, which is composed of singer Chris Martin, bassist Guy Berryman, guitarist Jonny Buckland and drummer Will Champion,  has already signed to perform before the League made their announcement.

According to US Weekly, another artist who will join Coldplay on the stage is Bruno Mars. The soulful singer already had his share of Super Bowl halftime performance after he gave fans a very wonderful show at the NFL's Super Bowl 48 in 2014.

There were speculations that American band Maroon 5 and country pop superstar Taylor Swift will take the stage at next year's event. However, the news portal added that both performers were not included in the official announcement by the league officials.

Deadline reported that American sportscaster Jim Nantz made the announcement. "For the first time, Pepsi will give fans an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create the world's biggest music event," he said.

A Youtube video can also be seen that shows Coldplay's singer Chris Martin saying that "Super Bowl of music is now the Super Bowl."

The last NFL's Super Bowl event was considered as the most-watched TV telecast in the United States history. It is said that 114.5 million people tuned into that game.

The performers during the halftime of the last Super Bowl were Katy Perry, Missy Elliot and singer Lenny Kravitz. The halftime show featuring these three artists was believed to have garnered 118.5 million, Deadline reported.

The 2014 performance by singer Bruno Mars and the energetic American band Red Hot Chili Peppers got 115.3 million viewers. They held the record for most-watched until Perry, Elliot and Kravitz's performance claimed the highest figure, the news outlet added.

It has been reported that the halftime show is a bigger event than the football game itself during the NFL's biggest stage. Coldplay will definitely feel the pressure to give fans the kind of performance their predecessors delivered.
