'The Witcher 3: Blood And Wine' Release Date & Trailer: Screenshots Tease New Region [Photos]

Having snatched the Game of The Year award from the recent Game Awards 2015, “The Witcher 3” is apparently on a roll. More so as new content are bound to come to the game in 2016.

GameSpot reported that game developer CD Projekt Red has released official images for an expansion pack for “The Witcher 3,” titled “Blood and Wine.”

The images, posted on the developer's Twitter account, showcased a colorful region that players will enjoy exploring. The two photos feature a wide new area that's beautifully detailed -- just what could be expected from the group that was awarded Developer of The Year.

The all-new region is reportedly named Toussaint. Although CD Projekt Red hasn't released any specifics about the new region and game content, it told GameSpot that the content "will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.”

The game is said to feature new gear and new enemies. Also, it will feature new and old characters. Yibada added that some gameplay changes as well as DirectX 12 support will be coming too.

Unlike other additional content, CD Projekt Red said that the new “Blood and Wine” expansion will offer players up to 20 hours of playing time – making it probably bigger and longer than some other standalone game content out in the market. Because of this, the content won't be for free.

"We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content," said CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski. "As gamers, we'd like to bring that back.”

“We've said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for the money,” Iwinski explained. “Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there."

“Blood and Wine” has no exact release date just yet, but it's scheduled for release during the first half of 2016. For now, excited fans can satiate themselves by feasting their eyes on the beautiful scenery found in the released photos.

“Blood and Wine, the second expansion for The Witcher 3, is on the horizon,” game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz said. "It's a massive new land to explore, visually unlike anything you saw in Wild Hunt or Hearts of Stone, and it too is brimming with stories we want you to discover."
