'Psychonauts 2' Hits Crowdfunding Goal Of $3.3 Million

The original "Psychonauts" received massive amounts of critical acclaim when it was first released in early 2005 by Double Fine Productions. More than ten years later, Tim Schafer and crew's crowdfunding campaign for "Psychonauts 2" has reached its $3.3 million dollar goal with a couple of days to go.

The original game ended with a cliffhanger with protagonist Raz going on a new mission to save the head of the Psychonauts. This left fans wanting more. So it was no surprise that supporters of the game invested money in seeing the next chapter of Raz's story. There has been a considerable amount of information released about the game by the developers. According to Tech Times, will garner the rest of the money needed aside from the $3.3 million from an unnamed partner.

"Psychonauts 2" will feature a new hub world inside Psychonauts HQ. You'll access new mental worlds as Raz peeks inside the minds of a host of new characters who need his help to combat their inner demons and unravel their deep-seated emotional issues. Raz will hone his secret agent PSI-abilities-and learn new ones too using them to solve mysteries and uncover evil plots," Double Fine says on their Fig crowdfunding page.

Backers can choose different reward tiers worth varying amounts to support the game's development. There are reward tiers which include exclusive items such as plushies, figurines, and backer t-shirts. Some of the more high-end rewards include being able to design you own character and spend time with the developers of the game.

Double Fine has also given the chance for a hardcore "Psychonauts" fan to be in the game. Once they reached a certain amount of followers on social media, Double Fine gave Funhaus' James Willems the chance to audition as a toilet in the upcoming game. Willems seems to be very proud and grateful to be given this opportunity as he has tweeted about it to his over 162,000 Twitter followers. He has also told this who follow him on social media to support the game and its developers.
