Nile Virus Risks Can Be Minimized

The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued a report earlier saying that the early discovery of the Nile Virus can prevent it from spreading serious harm.

The Nile Virus is a type of virus that is spread by a mosquito that have acquired another virus from the blood of an infected bird.

When not treated immediately, the virus can cause serious illnesses like encephalitis or an inflammation in the brain area.

In 2011, the West Nile virus was detected among 59 counties in Pennsylvania which resulted to the suffering of six patients.

According to a study, older people are more prone to acquiring complications brought about by the virus because their immune systems may already be compromised.

West Nile Virus can be prevented through a number of ways but the best is by getting rid of breeding areas where mosquitoes thrive.

The most common places for mosquitoes to lay their eggs in include stagnant waters around the house, discarded tires, shrubbery, tall grass and weeds.

By simply disposing used cans, plastic containers, ceramic pots and buckets that may hold dirty water, West Nile Virus can definitely be prevented.

It is also suggested that every home should have enough home improvement and outdoor supplies that they can use to help get rid of all types of mosquitoes, reports said.
