"Confident Body, Confident Child" Program: Key To Raising Healthy And Confident Children

Many children all around the globe suffer from disordered eating patterns that affect their bodies and emotional well-being. A program called Confident Body, Confident Child (CBCC) is developed to promote healthy eating and weight management among the children. The program is designed by the Academy for Eating Disorders for parents of children -- aged 2 to 6.

Medical Daily reported that there was a study conducted at La Trobe University in Australia evaluating the new program. It is found out that the program can develop the child's body image and eating patterns with the training of parents.

The study involved a number of parents that were divided into four groups. The first group received the CBCC resource workshop and pack. And the second group had only the CBCC resource pack. Meanwhile, the third group got the nutrition resources, and the fourth group had no interventions at all. The outcome after six weeks was that the parents who obtained the CBCC resources have encouraged healthy eating patterns among their children.

Science Daily stated that body dissatisfaction may lead to negative emotional and physical consequences such as depressive symptoms, disordered eating, and higher BMI, among others. The distorted body image can be developed in children at an early age. The CBCC is created to embolden parents to develop healthy eating patterns and self-image of their children.

"We are excited about this program because parents tell us it's exactly what they need in the current time of obesity fear and increasing disordered eating behaviors," Dr. Laura M. Hartt, the lead author of the study said.

Parents have the responsibility to nurture their children's development that involves fostering positive attitudes and behaviors particularly about their children's eating patterns and weight management. Having a healthy body image can develop their kids' self-esteem and self-confidence that are both essential for their overall emotional well-being.
