Why Feeding Your Dogs With Chocolate Is Bad For Them?

Part of being a responsible pet owner is knowing what you can and can't feed to your dog. However, there are a lot of things you probably didn't know about the variety of food that can actually really be bad for your pet, including chocolates.

Many people are unaware that feeding dogs with chocolates can be totally unadvisable as these sweet treats contain an element that is very bad for the dogs' health. In fact, just recently a three- year-old dog has been rushed to a veterinary clinic after it consumed a box of chocolates.

To let you understand more about the danger of feeding dogs with chocolate, below is a video clip, explaining why you should avoid giving them the said treats.

According to the footage, chocolates, particularly dark chocolates contain an element called Theobromine, which the video reiterated as "very toxic to dogs." The video also revealed that the said element is similar to caffeine.

A small dose of Theobromine is enough to increase the heart rate of a dog as well as the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the brain. Unfortunately, these creatures don't metabolize it very well, resulting to the damaging of the central nervous system and eventually death.

It takes 6 to 12 hours for the symptoms of the Theobromine poisoning to set in and when it appears, part of the signs are: seizure, vomiting, diarrhea, unusual breathing, increased heart rate and high temperature. Once you noticed any of the said symptoms, better take your dog to their vet right away.

Creator of the video also said that Theobromine is dangerous to cats too; however, they just have different taste. They are more tempted to go for meal hunting rather than eating a box of chocolate.

So, if you saw a chocolate wrapper near your dog and your pet is showing signs of poisoning, call your vet right away. Hurry and never feel sorry.
